Art Gallery- The art gallery, situated next to Parasuriah Raja Museum,
contains paintings of Raja Ravi Varma. Beach- 2 km from Calicut town is a long
stretch of treelined sand , popular with the local people, because of the light
house, two piers and the facility for sea bath.
Banasura Peak- Over looking Kuttiadi; 1.758 meter high Banasura Peak, named
after the giant demon Banasura.
Beypore- 10kms from Calicut, is a small Coastal town, Beypore, a ship
building centre and famous for the Country craft called "Urde". Vykom Basheer,
the famous writer, chose Beypore as his abode and became the Beypore Sultan.
Chaliyam- As island formed by the Beypore and Kadalundi rivers was formerely
the railway terminus. The Feroke bridge extending the railway to Calicut,
reduced the importance of Chaliyam. Cheruvannoor- is an industrial area.
Dolphins Point- Dolphins playing in the Sea can be seen in the early hours.
Feroke- Is an important title Industry Centre Ghat Section- 44 kms from
Calicut, the boundary of Wayanad district, is 14 kms long with nine hairpin
curves amidst hills and forests.
Kadalundi: Thousands of migratory birds from all over the world gather here
during the season, from Nevember.
Kallai- 6km., from Calicut, Kallai was and is the nerve point of Calicut's
timber trade.
Kappad- Vascoda Gama landed one the Kappad beach on 27th May 1498. This is
Commerated by small stone monument at the beach. Krishhna Menon
Museum- The late leader V.K.Krishna Menon is honoured here by exhibiting his
personal belongs and souvenirs.
Kuttiadi- 29 kms from Vadakara, Kuttiadi was the Head Quarters of the
Kottayam Raja. Fortifies Palace is located in a hill.
Manachira Maidan- Is the heart of the City with the town hall, public
library, Common Trust Office, one of Calicut's oldest building, the large pond
and the park, is beautiful planned for rest and recreation.
Mavoor- Is famous on account of the Rayon Factory. The City's water supply is
from this area.
Nadappuram- 18 kms north east of Vadakara, Nadappuram, is second only to
Ponnani for its Islamic culture. Parasuriab Museum -The Museum all East Hill, 5
kms from the City, run by the State Archogical Department displays ancient
mutual paintings, antique bronzes, and old coins as well as models of temples
and megalithic monuments.
Science Centre and Planetarium - Located near Mavoor Road, this complex
consists of a planetarium, scientific museum and science park. Thusharagiri- 48
km from the City with its water falls, and streams amidst the Hilly area, is a
tourist centre.
Vadkara- 48 kms from Calicut, is Badagara, a commercial centre for marital
art, "Kalarippayattu". Stories about Kadathanattu Rajas, Kolatheri Rajas,
Thamaraserry Rajas and other warriors are still popular. Warriors like Thacholi,
Manikath, Othena Kurup, are heroes of the people. There is a fort built by
Kadathanattu Raja at Vadakara. Remnants of another fort built by Kunjahali
Marakar, a Muslim rebel leader who fought the British, is part of history.
Vadakara is also the birth place of Cherussery Namboodiripad, the great poet.
